The prosecutor of the Italian Football Federation demanded on Monday a new withdrawal of points against Juventus Turin, during a hearing where the penalty suspended in April for alleged accounting fraud is being reviewed.

The prosecutor requested a withdrawal of 11 points during this hearing organized remotely, indicated the Italian Federation. The decision is expected later in the day or on Tuesday.

The Court of Appeal of the Federation had inflicted in January a withdrawal of 15 points to Juve because of capital gains deemed artificial during certain sales of players. But she was called to reassess her sanction in April by the Guarantee College of the Italian Olympic Committee (Coni), seized by the Turin club.

In the reasons for its decision, this body, the highest degree of sports justice in Italy, had confirmed a “voluntary and repeated alteration of accounting entries” on the part of Juve. But she had suspended the penalty and requested a review of the sanction, to clarify the role of certain Turin leaders in the case.

Juve, who play Monday evening in Empoli at the end of the 36th day of Serie A, are currently second in the championship. If the Federal Court of Appeal sticks to the prosecutor’s requisitions, it would drop to 7th place with very little chance of being able to reach 4th place, the last qualifier for the next Champions League.

The Bianconeri in theory still have the right to seize the College of Guarantee to contest a possible new sanction, which could extend this extra-sporting soap opera beyond the season, which ends on June 4.
