The news that 2 boys were shot dead in public in North Korea after they were accused of watching South Korean films and K-drama series despite the ban has shocked the world.
North Korea has been conducting periodic missile tests in protest of South Korea’s joint military exercises and drills with the United States. South Korea has accused North Korea of firing artillery shells 130 times in the past 2 days, particularly near the South Korean border and along its eastern and western seaboard. North Korea also released pictures of President Kim Jong Un directly watching the missile launch tests.
While the two countries are at loggerheads, the news that two boys were shot dead in public in the middle of the street on charges of watching K-drama series, TV series and movies, which are very popular and loved by fans all over the world, has caused shock. The two high school students, aged 16 and 17, from North Korea’s Ryonggang province, reportedly not only watched the South Korea and America dramas but also shared them with their friends.
After the police confirmed that the students had seen it on the digital platform, the two boys were brought to a public place. According to Korean media, the police officers shot and killed them among the locals last October. And on that day, another boy of the same age was shot and killed under the crime of murdering his stepmother.
While foreign media are not allowed in North Korea, it is said that North Korea itself has leaked the details of the execution of children in order to express its position against South Korea. Now that the matter has come to light, it has caused anguish among the world and human rights activists.
