European transfer expert: ‘Negotiations in final stages’
Debuts in K-League as a semi-pro this year… 7 goals, 3 assists
Gangwon FC’s Yang Min-hyeok, the most promising prospect in the professional soccer K-League this season, is expected to be playing with the national team captain Son Heung-min.
Fabricio Romano, a European football market transfer expert, said on the 24th (Korean time), “Yang Min-hyeok will soon sign a contract with Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League (EPL).”
He explained, “Tottenham believes that Korean striker Yang Min-hyeok has tremendous talent and significant potential for the future.”
He added, “Negotiations have entered the final stages,” and “Yang Min-hyeok will soon undergo a medical test at Tottenham.”
According to Romano, Yang Min-hyeok is expected to stay in Gangwon until January next year.
If Yang Min-hyeok’s transfer to Tottenham is successful, he will become the third Korean player to join Tottenham, following Lee Young-pyo and Son Heung-min.
Yang Min-hyeok, a third-year student at Gangwon Jeil High School, played in all 24 rounds of the K-League this season as a semi-professional.
In his first year of debut, he had already recorded double-digit attack points with 7 goals and 3 assists a little over halfway through the season.
He broke all of Gangwon’s youngest records for appearances, scores, and attack points, and signed a professional contract just 6 months after joining a semi-professional team, which is unusual.
He also won the ‘Young Player of the Month’ award for three consecutive months, from April to May. Yang Min-hyeok is the first player to win the award for three consecutive months since the award was first introduced.
In particular, in the home game against Jeju United on the 20th, he scored his first multi-goal since his professional debut.
As rumors of Yang Min-hyeok’s transfer to the EPL continued to circulate, Gangwon announced on the 22nd, “Regarding Yang Min-hyeok’s transfer, CEO Kim Byung-ji will personally conduct a live broadcast on Gangwon’s YouTube on the 28th or 29th.”
Meanwhile, Yang Min-hyeok has been added to the K-League roster of teams that will participate in the ‘Coupang Play Series’ on the 31st. If the transfer to Tottenham actually goes through, Yang Min-hyeok will face off against the team he will be playing for.
