Kazys Mackevičius was born in 1950. January 22 Žeimiai village, Kėdainiai district. in 1973 graduated from Vilnius University in librarianship, worked at the Lithuanian Information Institute, for twenty-eight years –
Director of the Technical Library of Lithuania (1987–2016).
The library led by him participated in domestic and foreign projects in accordance with its fields of activity, prepared topical bibliographic indexes, and thematic exhibitions. On the initiative of K. Mackevičius, the Patent Information Center was established, which became a repository of industrial property documents and patent literature of national, foreign countries and international organizations.
During his studies, he played birbyne in the VU song and dance ensemble, traveled around Lithuania with marchers, participated in the expeditions led by the future signatory of the Act of Independence of the Republic of Lithuania, Gedimins Ilgūnas, after 1861-1863. places of uprising battles – collected historiographical material about priest Antanas Mackevičius’ participation in the battles of that time. Prepared the bibliography of the Royal Union of Lithuanian Nobles, together with the photographer Rimantas Vilavičius, in 2006 – the exhibition “Interwar Nobles in Photographs”, which inspired the release of an album of the same name two years later. The exhibition that toured Lithuania in 2012. It was presented in Brussels during the celebration of the State Day of Lithuania.
K. Mackevičius actively participated in public activities. He was a long-time member of the Association of Lithuanian Scientific Libraries, the Board of the Northern Regions Association, the Society of Lithuanian Librarians, a long-time member of the Royal Union of Lithuanian Nobles, Honorary Noble, senator, commander of the Vilnius Region Nobles’ Union, St. Knight of the Order of Casimir. For social activities in 2015 he was awarded the title of Honorary Patron of the Third Century University of Medard Chobot.
