After years of division, Guinean employers held their constitutive general assembly on April 20. Ansoumane Kaba, CEO of the company Guiter SA, was bombarded President of the General Confederation of Companies of Guinea, a new structure supposed to bring everyone together.
No more internal quarrels and other crises of jealousy which pollute the atmosphere between Guinean businessmen? There is still hope, at least for the moment. Around thirty heavyweights from the Guinean business world found themselves in a single employer. On April 20, they elected Ansoumane Kaba, known as Kaba Guiter, as head of the General Confederation of Enterprises of Guinea, CGE-GUI, for a four-year term. It was at the end of a constitutive general meeting held this Saturday, April 20 in a hotel reception in Cona-cris. The members of the board of directors of the new structure: Kerfalla Person Camara known as KPC, Ismaël Keïta, Habib Hann, El Hadj Alsény Barry, Mamadou Bobo known as Super Bobo… They validated the new texts (Statutes, Internal Regulations and Code of ethics).
Chaired by PM Amadeus Oury Bah, the ceremony mobilized comic operators, union members, members of the government… The tenant of the Palais de la Colombe welcomes the unification of the Guinean employers’ movement, calls on businessmen to change paradigm. “The political leader is not master of everything. The political world only exists when it serves the economic world. We are required to support you so that there is more wealth and more redistribution.” The door of government is open to employers at any time, he reassured: “We will ask you often, because it is our mission to work with you, before making decisions that involve you. »
Ambitions
Ansoumane Kaba hopes for no less. Its ambition: to make the CGE-GUI a framework for exchange with those in power with a view to developing and reforming, if necessary, the private sector; bring customs and taxes to loosen the grip on businesses, seek together ways to build a strong economy. The elected official says he is aware of the immensity of the task and is ready to find solutions that benefit everyone.
He is also committed to taking the step towards federations still reluctant to follow the dynamic. “We will go to see companies, large or small, from all professional branches so that we can lead advocacy with our leaders.” Ansoumane Kaba wants, during his mandate, to get the authorities to set up the Court of Appeal and the Commercial Court of Cassation, with professionals from the sector as consular judges.
Support
El Hadj Alsény Barry, President of the National Coordination of Fulbè and Haali pular of Guinea, also gave his support to the new elected official, but not without recalling the challenges that await him: “Economic operators have chosen Guinea to the detriment of their personal interests. Ansoumane Kaba must know that he is expected at the turn by all economic operators. It is now the bridge between the union, employers and power. He has to fight for things to go well.” The patriarch recalled: “If we have employers today, it is because politics did not get involved. If that were the case, we wouldn’t have gotten along. We congratulate the government for the fact that it has agreed to let us choose the one we want. We chose Ansoumane Kaba.”
Rebellious federations
Even before this selection, employers’ federations had raised their voices. They accuse Kaba Guiter and his group of having kept them aside. The federations of freight forwarders, scrap dealers, bakers, fishermen and farmers made their voices heard on April 16 during a press briefing. “Employers are made up of companies, socio-professional associations, confederations and federations. No assembly can be held without their participation. We feel excluded, we are an integral part of the employers,” complained Kélétigui Touré, troublesome secretary of the umbrella association of freight forwarders.
This fringe of employers had sworn, hand on hand, to prevent by all means the constitutive general assembly from taking place. But on the big day, they didn’t show up. The scene was surrounded by a horde of cops and Pandoras.
For the CGE-GUI, there was no exclusion. His troublesome secretary, Maria Diané, justifies the exclusion of the rebels by what she describes as disorder. “Like the plurality of employers that existed, we were confronted with that of socio-professional federations. Each time we invited the president of a federation, we ended up with 4 to 5 presidents. We cannot find a reliable contact. Our mission, after this general assembly, is to unify the federations where total disorder reigns today. Each sector must have a representative.”
Maria Diané specifies that the CGE-GUI favors wealthy business leaders over resourceful people. “It is these big bosses who make up the executive council of the unified employers”. Shows that employers, even unified, are not for the poor.
