Kacper Tomasiak Wins Two Gold Medals at Ski Jumping Championships

Kacper Tomasiak claimed two gold medals at the Polish Summer Ski Jumping Championships in Zakopane, dominating both the individual competition on the Wielka Krokiew and the team duet event alongside Jakub Wolny. The 19-year-old secured the individual title by a narrow 2.1-point margin.

The national championships on the Wielka Krokiew brought together a massive field of 87 ski jumpers and six women, drawing competitors from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine for a key domestic test ahead of the upcoming winter World Cup season. The individual men’s competition on October 16 saw a dramatic shifting of the podium during the final round, where the 19-year-old Tomasiak overcame a first-round deficit to claim his first career national title.

Kacper Tomasiak Edges Out Rivals in a Tight Individual Finish

After the first jump of the men’s individual event, Klemens Joniak of LKS Poroniec Poronin held the lead with a 138.5-meter flight that netted 173.9 points. Tomasiak, representing LKS Klimczok Bystra, sat just 1.1 points behind after launching 133.5 meters, while Paweł Wąsek held third place.

Variable tailwinds across the large hill forced judges to rely heavily on compensation points to sort the final standings. In the decisive round, Wąsek surged up the leaderboard with a 137.5-meter effort, but Tomasiak answered with a 136-meter jump that placed immediate pressure on the leaders. Joniak could only manage 134 meters on his final attempt, dropping him to third. Tomasiak finished with 334.2 points, beating Wąsek by a mere 2.1 points, while Joniak settled for the bronze medal 2.5 points off the winning pace.

Previously I couldn't even break into the top ten, so now there is joy, even if the jumps in the competition weren't anything crazy. I landed a few better ones in training, Kacper Tomasiak said

The individual podium underwent a brief post-competition review when judges made a point correction several minutes after the conclusion of the event, confirming Wąsek in second and Joniak in third.

Anna Twardosz Dominates the Women’s Field on Wielka Krokiew

While the men’s contest went down to the wire, the women’s competition was a showcase of total control. Anna Twardosz of KS AZS AWF Katowice secured her fourth summer national title and the fifth summer crown of her career, bringing her total haul of Polish championship medals to 13.

Kamila Karpiel of LKS Poroniec Poronin took silver with 193.9 points, and Nicole Konderla-Juroszek rounded out the podium with 186.9 points.

National Coach Evaluates Team Hierarchy Ahead of World Cup Opener

The championships also surfaced questions regarding veteran mainstays Dawid Kubacki and Piotr Żyła, who finished eighth and tenth respectively in the individual standings and missed the individual podium entirely. National team coach Maciej Maciusiak pointed to Tomasiak and Wąsek as the current pacesetters in the squad.

While Kubacki secured a spot alongside Tomasiak, Wąsek, Joniak, Kot, and Wolny for the upcoming Letné Grand Prix finale in Klingenthal, Żyła was left off that roster as coordination with former coach Stefan Horngacher continues. Maciusiak acknowledged that the coaching staff leaves open the possibility of opening the World Cup season in Lillehammer without either veteran.

We are allowing for that possibility, but they also have this potential, they trained without any injuries. The competition is fierce, the best competitors will ride. It's hard to say at this stage who is going and who isn't. I believe that Piotrek and Dawid will bounce back and fight for the highest honors, Maciej Maciusiak said

The jumpers will travel to the Vogtland Arena in Klingenthal for the final events of the 2026 Letní Grand Prix running from October 23 to 25, ahead of the World Cup opening competitions in Lillehammer on November 20.
