jpnn.com – MANOKWARI – All regional heads in West Papua Province are advised not to rotate a number of officials ahead of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections.

The appeal was made by the Chairman of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of West Papua Province, Elias Idie.

According to him, the prohibition on replacing officials in the government sphere is contained in Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 1/2015 concerning the Determination of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 1/2014 concerning the Election of Governors, Regents and Mayors into Law.

The regulation mandates that regional heads not rotate officials six months before determining the candidate pairs for governor-deputy governor, candidate for regent-deputy regent and candidate for mayor-deputy mayor until the end of the term of office.

“From March 22 2024 to September 22 2024 there will be no replacement of officials. If you want to rotate, you must have written approval from the Minister of Home Affairs,” said Elias in Manokwari, Friday (5/4).

According to him, the appeal is intended to prevent abuse of authority or create situations that have the potential to cause violations.

The provincial Bawaslu and its staff are committed to realizing the 2024 regional elections that are democratic and have integrity to ensure consistent legal certainty.

“Including issues that are currently developing, such as the use of social assistance and others. This regional election has quite high political tension,” he said.

Regional heads were reminded not to rotate officials ahead of the 2024 regional elections.
