Huge trouble because of Havertz

Kai Havertz scores the 2-1 winning goal for Arsenal FC against Brentford FC with a header and causes a lot of trouble for the opponent. The Gunners are at the top of the table, at least for now.

Thanks to Kai Havertz, Arsenal FC has taken over the top of the table in the English Premier League. After a late goal from the national player (86th), the Londoners defeated FC Brentford 2-1 (1-1) and took first place at least until Sunday with their eighth league win in a row with 64 points.

The fact that Havertz, of all people, scored the winning goal caused outrage among the opponents. Brentford coach Thomas Frank was upset that the 24-year-old, who had already been booked before half-time, was still on the field at the time of the decisive goal.

“That definitely should have been a yellow-red card. “Then he wouldn’t have been able to score the winning goal,” said Frank, outraged about the scene in the 66th minute when Havertz went down in the penalty area after minimal contact from Nathan Collins. After a VAR check, there was no penalty for Arsenal. But that wasn’t enough for Frank. “That was a clear swallow! It might have been difficult for the referee to see, but the linesman should have seen it,” the Dane said angrily.

That was Havertz, who was expected to be nominated for the March internationals by national coach Julian Nagelsmann on Thursday, but it didn’t matter after the final whistle. “We really wanted these points – and we got them,” said the offensive player: “Sometimes these games make you stronger than 6-0 wins.”

If there is no winner in the top game (from 4:45 p.m. in the LIVE TICKER) between Liverpool FC (63) and defending champions Manchester City (62), Arsenal will remain ahead.

With Havertz in the starting line-up, everything initially went according to plan for the hosts. Declan Rice (19th) took the lead. However, in injury time of the first half, Yoane Wissa (45th + 4) equalized with a mega shot from Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale. The goalkeeper took too much time after a back pass and shot Wissa in the six-yard box, so that the ball was blocked into the net.

After the break, however, the Gunners turned up the heat and pushed for victory. Around four minutes before the end of regular time, DFB star Havertz headed the ball past Mark Flekken after a cross from Ben White to make the final score 2-1.

Arsenal will face FC Porto in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday. The Portuguese won the first leg 1-0.
