With these words, Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov addressed the pilots of airplanes and helicopters from the Czech Republic and Spain, who participated in extinguishing the fires in our country. The ceremony took place at Plovdiv Airport. Stoyanov then presented each member of the crew with Bulgarian wine, honey and lutenitsa.

“This is our humble gift to you from the bottom of our hearts with great appreciation and I am sure you will enjoy it,” he declared.

In his words, with their actions, the crews from Spain and the Czech Republic have shown that the European Union can help each of its members in a difficult moment. The pilots of the foreign machines stated that they had no great difficulty in extinguishing the fires, the greatest danger to them being the lightning when they were in the air.

The interior minister added that the situation with the fire on the Greek border is being monitored and he has received assurance that the flames will not enter our territory in the next two days.

“Not a single person will be sent to the minefields. We will deal with this fire with our helicopters without risking people’s lives and health,” Stoyanov also said.
