Camilla Zerpe Karlsson, the chairman of Kattakuten in Norrbotten, stated that she has never seen anything like this before. The disturbing incident involved some cats freezing in the ice, with one of them stuck on a branch. Many cats were hypothermic, with some receiving immediate veterinary care and at least two of them dying. Karlsson explained that they took one of the cats to the vet after receiving help, but it was severely underweight and had no fur on its belly or hind legs. She affirmed that the cats were abandoned deliberately, citing it as a complete disaster. In light of this event, the County Administrative Board in Norrbotten urged residents living within two kilometers of Kalix center to keep their cats indoors to prevent them from being taken into care unnecessarily.

The cats are in many cases hypothermic, some have received emergency veterinary care and at least two have died.

– We went to the vet immediately after picking up the cat from our fantastic helper. It was just skin and bones plus it had no fur on its belly or hind legs, says Camilla Zerpe Karlsson to NSD.

– There is no doubt that the cats are dumped. It is a complete disaster, she tells SVT Nyheter Norrbotten.

County Administrative Board in Norrbotten people living within two kilometers of the center of Kalix are asked to keep their cats indoors:

“This is to avoid the risk of the wrong cats being taken into care,” writes the county administrative board.
