## US Vice President Kamala Harris Ready to Serve, Despite Controversy over Biden’s Age
US Vice President Kamala Harris recently expressed her unwavering readiness to serve her country, despite renewed controversy surrounding President Joe Biden‘s advanced age and mental abilities.
In an interview published by The Wall Street Journal, Harris directly addressed concerns about the president’s age, stating, “I am ready to serve my country, no question about it.” She further emphasized her belief that her work would demonstrate her full capacity to lead.
The interview took place two days before the publication of comments from plaintiff Robert Hur, who raised concerns about Biden’s memory. These comments have undoubtedly impacted the ongoing election campaign, which is nine months away from the presidential election in November. Biden is expected to face former Republican President Donald Trump, who is 77 years old.
Following the release of Attorney General Merrick Garland’s report, Harris defended Biden, criticizing the prosecutor’s apparent political motivations.
While the US Constitution outlines the vice president’s succession in the event of the president’s death or inability to fulfill his duties, it does not automatically guarantee Harris the Democratic Party’s nomination if Biden were to withdraw from the race for any reason.
Democratic officials have publicly denied any serious discussions about replacing Biden in the upcoming election. They point out that the primary election nomination period has already closed.
In recent months, Harris has been entrusted with additional responsibilities, including leading the administration’s response to the abortion rights issue and establishing an office to prevent armed violence. She has also played a prominent role in managing the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
