Vice President Kamala Harris has managed to beat Donald Trump in the US presidential race, a new poll has shown.
This was reported by the publication “Reuters”.
A narrow 44% to 42% lead among registered voters in a national poll was recorded Monday and Tuesday after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and publicly endorsed Harris as his successor.
Harris immediately headed to Wisconsin for her first campaign trip as a Democratic candidate, in a politically charged and contentious state. Harris was tied with Trump at 44 percent a week earlier, and Trump led her by one percentage point earlier this month. The difference in all three polls was within the three-point margin of error, but the current survey may indicate a slight shift in Democrats’ favor. It’s also worth noting that Trump has not seen the boost he expected after the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last week.
After Biden, 81, abandoned his reelection campaign under pressure from party members concerned about his ability to defeat Trump and govern effectively, Harris quickly consolidated support among Democrats. She completed her nomination process Monday night, winning the support of a majority of delegates who are expected to formally endorse her at the party convention next month.
Democratic leaders including Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries endorsed Harris at a joint news conference Tuesday. An informal delegate poll conducted by The Associated Press found that Harris had secured the support of more than 2,500 delegates, well above the 1,976 needed to formally clinch the nomination. While delegates could change their minds, the poll showed no significant support for other candidates, with only 54 delegates saying they were undecided.
Harris’s rise has dramatically changed the course of a campaign in which many voters were frustrated with their options. Biden, struggling with health problems and high prices that were taking a toll on Americans’ finances, began to lose ground to Trump, especially in key battleground states like Wisconsin, Arizona and Nevada.
Harris’s support within the party and her success in the polls give the Democratic Party hope of retaining control of the White House. As recent events have shown, her candidacy can mobilize voters and create a sustainable platform for victory in the upcoming elections.
Earlier, Cursor reported that Trump called Harris “evil and stupid.” At first, Biden’s representative did not want to comment on Trump’s words, but later changed his point of view.
