For the first time, we have this combination of elections – with candidate lists and preferences. Electoral rights for the National Assembly and for the European vote are different. Bulgarian citizens with address registration in the country and a member of the EU have the right to vote for the EP 3 months before the election day – March 9, 2024. These requirements do not exist for the National Assembly elections. Therefore, there will be two separate electoral lists for the two elections, because the electoral rights of the citizens are different.

This is what the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Kamelia Neikova said in the morning block of BTV.

According to her, those parties and coalitions that apply for both types of elections, with the same name, will have the same number.

Kamelia Neikova added that the CEC will deal with the elections.

We ended the old public procurement for the Eurovote machines only. There is now a public procurement for 2-in-1 voting machines, she added.

The plan account for the expenses for the elections is adopted by a decision of the Council of Ministers. Yesterday, the CEC approved the bill. The part that is defined as the budget of the CEC. The budget plan was about BGN 98 million. For the CEC, it is BGN 4.6 million for explanatory campaign activities, media packages, remuneration for committee members and persons who support the election process, explained the head of the CEC.

Other state bodies that have responsibilities participate in the electoral process. When the plan bill is adopted, you will see by department how the funds are distributed, Neikova also said.
