Kamilla Cardoso was drafted by Chicago Sky, the third overall pick in the WNBA Draft, last Monday. The Brazilian stood out after winning the national College title at the University of South Carolina twice and being one of the team’s main players.

At 22 years old, the 2.01m from Minas Gerais will be the 16th athlete from Brazil to play in the North American basketball elite of all time.

Protagonist of the campaign that led South Carolina to the undefeated national college basketball title, with 38 wins, the pivot ended the season as the league’s best defender and main player in the final.

– Nobody is going to get rebounds against us – said Kamilla when asked what the partnership with Angel will be like.

In her college career, Kamilla won two titles, in 2020 and 2024. In 2020, she was a reserve and won the award for best sixth player in the Southeastern Conference. In the second title, she was an absolute starter in South Carolina’s undefeated campaign. Despite being injured, she recorded 15 points and 17 rebounds in the big decision and the best on the court award at the Final Four.

Kamilla Cardoso was born in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. The Brazilian moved to the United States at just 14 years old, without speaking English, leaving her family in Brazil. She went to play in High School, the American High School, already pursuing college basketball and the WNBA.
