Everland zookeeper Kang Cheol-won, also known as ‘Fubao Grandpa’, met Fubao again after about 3 months.
On the 12th, a video showing the reunion between zookeeper Kang and Fubao was uploaded to Everland’s YouTube channel ‘Talking Zoo Puppa TV’.
Ahead of the reunion, Zookeeper Kang said, “Many people say, ‘It seems like Fubao is looking for someone,’ and I thought that could happen in the past,” and added, “But once he gets used to it, (I) will remain in Fubao’s heart, but he won’t act like that.”
During his four-day stay in China, he visited the Wulong Shenzhou Panda Base in China, where Fubao is, twice.
As soon as the zookeeper saw Fubao, he smiled brightly and affectionately called him “Fubao.” Fubao, who had been sleeping, opened his eyes and looked around, but did not approach Zookeeper Kang. The first meeting ended as the rain began to fall heavily.
“I feel at ease when I see the environment in which Fubao lives. The environment and natural conditions are so good,” said Kang, adding, “I think I will be able to make people who are worried understand better now.”
The next morning, Master Kang went to see Fubao again. Fubao, who had come out of the inner room to the outdoor radiation room, was busy eating the bamboo in front of him.
After some time, Fubao approached Zookeeper Kang and stayed nearby. Zookeeper Kang said affectionate words such as, “Fubao is doing so well.”
“You might think that since it’s been three months since Fubao left for China, he should be in a very stable state, but since he kept moving, we have to consider that he was in a constant state of tension,” explained Kang, who met Fubao for the second time.
He continued, “It’s only been about 15 to 20 days since I settled in, so I still have a long way to go to get used to it,” and added, “It wasn’t easy to leave Fubao behind, but I think Fubao will live a happy life if he adapts well to the surrounding environment.”
