Actor Kang Dong-won was interviewed about the Netflix movie ‘Jeon, Ran‘ (directed by Kim Sang-man) at a cafe located in Samcheong-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 23rd.

On this day, Kang Dong-won said about taking on the role of a slave, “I grew up in a family where I was somewhere between a nobleman and a slave, even if I wasn’t a slave from a young age, so I guess I’m much more suited to being a slave.” He said, “I don’t have the right personality to be a noble person.”

Regarding the visual of the damaged appearance, he said, “When I first appeared, I thought it would have been better if I had made my appearance more dirty. I don’t like making the skin tone base itself spotty, so I talked to the makeup team, but I think there was a mistake. “I think it was too clean,” he said.

Regarding Park Jung-min, who played the role of a nobleman, he added, “I think Jeong-min suits the nobleman well,” and added, “I also thought he suited the slave role well.”

‘Jeon, Ran’ is the opening film of the 29th Busan International Film Festival held this year.

It is a work depicting the story of Jong-ryeo (played by Park Jung-min), the son of the highest military official in Joseon who grew up together, and his servant Cheon-yeong (played by Kang Dong-won), who grew up together during the chaotic era of the Japanese invasions, and meet again as enemies of King Seonjo’s (Cha Seung-won) closest military officer and volunteer soldier.

Meanwhile, Kang Dong-won also shared the story behind becoming a new member of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which hosts the American Academy Awards (Oscar Awards).

On this day, Kang Dong-won said about becoming a member who can exercise the right to vote for the Academy Awards, “American management said they would like me to become a member, so I thought the management would do it, but they said, ‘You need to get a letter of recommendation.’ “Because I didn’t like it, but management pushed me a lot.”

He continued, “I’m sorry to ask other actors, but I can talk to directors more comfortably. I talked to Director Park Chan-wook and Director Hirokazu Kore-eda, and they said I needed letters of recommendation from three people. So I asked Byung-hun Lee, saying I was very sorry, and he willingly agreed. “He said, ‘Oh, okay,’” he said.

He then said, “I don’t know what’s good, but if you log in to the relevant app during Academy season, you can see all the nominated films. There are a lot of movies, so you have to watch them all and vote,” and added, “There’s an annual fee.” He made people laugh.

‘Jeon, Ran’ was released on Netflix on the 11th, and in it, Kang Dong-won played the role of Cheon Young, who has the best swordsmanship skills despite being of low status.
