A man died Sunday night after sustaining gunshot wounds,prompting a homicide investigation by the Kansas City Police Department. The incident unfolded after police responded to reports of a shooting near a convenience store and ultimately led to a death at a local hospital.
The sequence of events began just before midnight on sunday, when officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Van brunt Boulevard following reports of a shooting. Initial investigation at the scene revealed evidence of a possible crime,but no victim was promptly located.
Initial Response and Hospital Notification
According to police reports, officers thoroughly searched the area around the convenience store but were unable to find anyone injured. Though, shortly after beginning their investigation, a local hospital contacted the police department to report the arrival of an adult male suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. The man had arrived at the hospital via private vehicle.
Connecting the Scenes and Fatal Outcome
Investigators quickly established a connection between the shooting victim and the scene on Van Brunt Boulevard. Despite receiving immediate medical attention,the victim succumbed to his injuries around 2 a.m. Monday. The case is now officially classified as a homicide.
