The original Kannada version of the film was released on September 30. The film filled the Kannada audience with excitement from the first day and reached the 100 crore club in a few days. Later Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam versions also hit the theatres. The film also performed brilliantly at the box office in other languages. Kantara is produced by Hombale Films, the makers of ‘KGF’. Saptami Gowda, Kishore, Achyut Kumar, Pramod Shetty, Shanyan Guru, Prakash Thuminath, Manasi Sudhir, Naveen D Patil, Swaraj Shetty, Deepak Rai Panaji, Pradeep Shetty, Rakshit Ramachandran Shetty, Pushparaj Bollara and others have played the lead roles in the film. The film has been released in Kerala by Prithviraj Productions.
