Former Judicial Police Director Released ⁣from Prison in Mexico

On Tuesday night, Hugo Adolfo ‌Karam, the former director of the Judicial ‌Police of the⁤ Office of the Attorney General in the ⁣State of Puebla, was⁣ released from prison in Cancun,⁤ Quintana Roo. This came after his⁣ defense obtained an ‍injunction, ⁣securing his release⁤ on precautionary measures.

Journalist Lydia⁤ Cacho, who has accused Karam of torture, wrote on her X account that ⁤Karam is the owner of a security company with gun permits ​and special guards. She ‍alleged that‍ they ‌had been denouncing these practices for ‍years.

Following his⁢ release, ⁤Karam met with⁤ his wife ⁤and legal representatives.

In 2005, Karam was charged ⁢with participating in the arrest and torture of Lydia Cacho ⁢to expose⁢ a pedophilia network in Mexico. He was not arrested until July 13, 2023, when he was apprehended⁣ in Boca del ⁤Rio, ​Veracruz.

Pedophilia Allegations and the “Demons of Eden” Book

The⁤ release of Karam coincides with renewed attention to ⁤the controversial book “The⁣ Demons of Eden,” which investigates ⁤a ​pedophilia ring in​ Mexico. The book’s⁣ author, Lydia Cacho, claims that ‍Karam was involved in the torture and arrest of journalists who exposed the network.

The book also implicates several prominent figures, including Mario Marín, a former governor of Puebla, and Kamel Nacif, a businessman known as⁣ “The King of Denim.”

Government Response and Alleged Cover-up

According to reports, Karam received orders from the then-governor of Puebla to issue an arrest warrant against Cacho after the book’s publication. ⁢Phone recordings between Nacif and Marin suggest that the latter supported the businessman’s efforts to silence Cacho.
