Being a minister comes with many obligations, and it is difficult given her current family situation, writes Knowledge Minister Kari Nessa Nordtun on Facebook.

Stavanger Aftenblad was the first to write about the case.

– The decision was made then. It has been incredibly difficult, she writes on Facebook.

She further explains that she loves to
engage in politics at the national level.

– Contribute to changing society where I can. Make everyday life
better for individuals. Especially for children and young people – all over the country. There has
been a need for a new direction in education policy. That is what I want to continue with.
Also after the next election if the party wants me with them. But it will not be in
the Parliament, she writes.

She continues to write that being a minister comes with many commitments, and
that it is difficult given her current family situation.

– I have three small children. A lot can happen around the next corner. To
tie myself to the Parliament and Oslo for four years without the flexibility to jump
off if something unexpected were to happen at home, I cannot do that now.

She says there is much she has not been able to accomplish as
Knowledge Minister.

– I will work hard for the Labour Party to win
the election next fall. And then I hope Jonas will want me to continue in the government.

She is said to have informed Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of her decision on Tuesday
morning.

When she became Knowledge Minister in 2023, she came from her position as
Mayor of Stavanger. She and her husband have three sons aged two, seven, and nine.
