A farming family in Kolar, Karnataka, known for its tomato production, has significantly benefitted from the skyrocketing prices. Prabhakar Gupta, along with his brothers, who have been engaged in farming for over four decades, achieved a considerable income of Rs 38 lakh in a single day. Farming on approximately 40 acres in Bethamangala, the brothers harvested their tomatoes and sold over 2000 boxes, reaping large profits.
Prabhakar Gupta’s Perspective:
Commenting on their success, Prabhakar Gupta stated, “Two years ago, a box of 15 kg tomatoes would fetch Rs 800. However, the current price for the same box has soared to Rs 1900. We earned Rs 38 lakh by selling a total of 2000 boxes. Whilst hardworking farmers like us can make Rs 126, the profit for dealers and retail shopkeepers selling our produce is only between 40 to 60 rupees.”
