CPM councilor’s claim that he has nothing to do with pan masala smuggling in Kollam falls flat. The connection between CPM leader Shanawaz and the smuggling gang has now come to light in the case of seizure of pan masala worth Rs.1 crore in Karunagapally.
The pictures of defendant Ijaz participating in Shanawaz’s birthday party are now out. The film was taken just four days before the police seized a huge cache of Panmasala. DYFI SFI leaders of Alappuzha along with Shanawas and Ijaz are also in the film.
But after realizing that Ijaz was caught, they removed the pictures of the birthday celebration from social media
Two days ago, the Karunagappally police seized 98 sacks of tobacco products which were trying to be smuggled in two lorries along with vegetables. Tobacco products were seized from a lorry owned by Alappuzha Municipal Councilor and Standing Committee Chairman M Shanawas. But his explanation is that the vehicle was rented to someone else.
