Kaspersky Lab: Fraudsters Steal Telegram Accounts Using Voting Links

by time news

Kaspersky Lab has discovered a new way to steal a personal Telegram account using fake voting links. According to this scheme, attackers send users links from someone on the contact list, after which they need to enter a phone number and Telegram verification code.

Links sent in messages are abbreviated, so you can not see the real address of the site. When you click on the link, an authentic site opens, where you first need to enter the phone number, and then the Telegram verification number. After that, the attackers gain access to the user’s account, they can see all his correspondence and, for example, scans of documents. They can also call and demand money for the return of the account. This method works in the absence of two-factor authentication.

If the user has already followed the link and sent the code, then you can go to the Telegram menu “Settings”, then to “Active Sessions” and click on the “End all other sessions” button. If you act quickly enough, this will make it impossible for attackers to use your account.
