Kaspersky Lab has assessed the losses of Russian business from cyber attacks

The greatest material damage to Russian companies in 2021 was caused by targeted cyberattacks – those for which cybercriminals collect information about a potential victim in advance and choose the tools to carry it out. One such cyber attack cost large Russian businesses $ 695,000, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) – $ 32,000, according to a study by Kaspersky Lab.

35% of organizations in Russia faced targeted attacks in 2021. Among the most costly cyber incidents were also the misuse of IT resources by employees: the damage averaged $ 510,000 for large businesses and $ 30,000 for SMEs. Failure to comply with internal information security policy also caused significant material damage to companies – on average, a leak cost $ 465,000 and $ 30,000 for large companies and SMEs, respectively.

DDoS attacks were also rated by Kaspersky Lab as the most costly for business. On average, a DDoS attack cost $ 463,000 for large companies.

In 2021, according to Kaspersky Lab’s estimates, the company allocated more than $ 755,000 for information security – this is 25% of the company’s total IT budget, by 2024 it could grow by 12%, Kaspersky Lab predicted.
