/ The Iraqi Football Association announced on Thursday that the national team coach, Jesus Casas, had reversed his decision to leave the Lions of Mesopotamia, noting that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had directed an investigation into the events that accompanied Casas’ press conference.
Union member Ghaleb Al-Zamili told Agency, “Al-Sudani met today with the national team coach Jesus Casas and the union president Adnan Darjal, and during the meeting, Iraq’s participation in the Asian Championship and the events that took place at the press conference in Qatar were discussed, as well as opening an investigation into the matter.”
Al-Zamili added, “Al-Sudani promised to provide all the requirements for success, protection and reassurance,” expressing his interest and adherence to the coach as a basis for his service to the Iraqi national team, especially after it witnessed a development in the level during his tenure.”
The union member confirmed that “Coach Kasas changed his mind about whether or not to leave the Iraqi national team, and decided to continue his mission as coach of the national team.”
Casas announced in a statement to the Spanish newspapers that after what happened in the press conference after the Iraq-Jordan match, which had unacceptable repercussions, he decided to leave Iraq to discuss with his family and relatives to make the final decision regarding whether he should stay or leave the Iraqi national team.
Later, the Prime Minister’s media office announced that the latter received the Iraqi national football team delegation today, Thursday, in the presence of the President of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, and the team’s coach, Jesus Casas, according to a statement received by Agency.
Al-Sudani welcomed the national team delegation and its coaching staff, and praised the good performance of the national team players in the Asian Championship, which was a source of happiness for all Iraqis, and that football is a game of winning and losing, directing his thanks to the federation and the coaching staff.
The Prime Minister stressed that this meeting is a message of support for the national team in its upcoming World Cup qualifiers, in which Iraqis hope to qualify for the finals. It also constitutes an affirmation of the government’s support for sports in general. His Excellency expressed his pride in the presence of Mr. Casas at the head of the national team’s coaching staff, appreciating his efforts with the players who made us feel that we have a team whose performance is different from previous years.
For their part, the President of the Football Association, Adnan Darjal, the coach, Casas, and the players, thanked the Prime Minister for his continuous support and backing of the national team, stressing that they will live up to expectations in the upcoming events.
