Kaushik Burman named Co-CEO of Spiro

Spiro, a company specializing in electric motorcycles, has announced the appointment of Kaushik Burman as Co-CEO, effective August 14, 2023. Mr. Burman will work alongside Jules Samain, member of the board of directors and also Co-CEO of the company. This appointment aims to strengthen Spiro’s position as a leader in the transition to electric vehicles on the African continent.

Prior to joining Spiro, Kaushik Burman served as Managing Director of Gogoro Inc, a NASDAQ-listed electric mobility and battery swap infrastructure company. He played a major role in the company’s global expansion by opening up markets such as Indonesia, the Philippines and Korea. He also spearheaded the launch of Gogoro in India. Prior to that, Mr. Burman held various senior positions at Shell plc, where he was a founding member of DLNG (Liquified Natural Gas for B2B transport fuel) and Managing Director of Shell Fleet Solutions. Kaushik Burman holds an MBA from INSEAD and completed the “Advanced Technology & Policy” program at Harvard Kennedy School. He also holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from University College of Engineering (OU, Hyderabad) and an MBA from FMS Delhi. In his statements, Jules Samain, member of the board of directors and Co-CEO, indicated that Spiro today has nearly 10,000 motorcycles and more than two million trade-ins in just 13 months of activity in Togo, Rwanda and Benin. “We have created hundreds of jobs and our services have had a positive impact on thousands of clients in Benin, Togo and Rwanda,” he said. Spiro, a startup focused on electric mobility, aims to become a leading integrated technology platform, offering users a range of services combining energy, entertainment and digital. The company aspires to reshape the transport landscape in Africa by replacing fossil fuel-powered vehicles with clean, reliable and affordable electric alternatives.
