Kazakhstan is ready to supply over 1 million tons of wheat to Azerbaijan.

As reported on Saturday by Day.Az with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, this was stated by the Chairman of the Board of JSC “Prodcorporation” (national company of Kazakhstan) Asylkhan Dzhuvashev.

“Historically, Kazakhstan shipped more than 1 million tons of grain to Azerbaijan. We are currently working on mechanisms to return to our previous positions in order to once again become competitive in the Azerbaijani market with Kazakh wheat,” Dzhuvashev said.

According to him, a clearly structured and successfully functioning system of grain storage and distribution allows for efficient deliveries to Azerbaijan.

“In particular, the Baku Grain Terminal, located in the port of Hovsan, has a production capacity for grain transshipment of about 600 thousand tons per year, and the mill complex is capable of processing up to 50 thousand tons of products annually. The terminal operates around the clock and is equipped with an automated process control system, which guarantees high quality services,” Dzhuvashev said.

It should be noted that the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan for January-May 2024 amounted to 234 million US dollars, which is 4 percent less than for the same period in 2023 ($243.7 million).

At the same time, exports to Azerbaijan dominated the trade turnover – $213.8 million, or 3.2 percent more than in January-May 2023 ($207.2 million).

In addition, imports from Azerbaijan fell by 45 percent during the specified period and amounted to $20.1 million. From January to May 2023, this figure was $36.5 million.
