Kazakhstan is taking measures to eliminate the bottlenecks of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTR or Middle Corridor).

As Day.Az reports, Vice Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Satzhan Ablaliyev told Trend about this at the second meeting of the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Business Council in Baku.

“The middle corridor is a very important transport route in terms of interaction between our countries and the entry of Chinese goods into Europe. In terms of expanding the capacity of this route, we are taking various measures to eliminate bottlenecks, as well as to increase the capacity of this corridor,” the vice-president emphasized. -minister

According to him, Kazakhstan Railways JSC has already begun to implement several projects to build second tracks to increase freight traffic along the TMTM.

“We also began to build a new road on the border with China with the opening of a new checkpoint. These measures are being taken to eliminate bottlenecks. A bypass railway is being built in the city of Almaty, which shortens the journey by about a day. In addition, many projects are being implemented in the field of road transport. We see the development of roads on a par with the development of railways. Therefore, we are working to expand the technical category of a number of roads,” Ablaliev noted.

In addition, the vice minister mentioned that a joint venture has been created between Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia, which will provide a single window for transportation along this corridor.

“It should start operating this year. This will provide great convenience to businessmen for transporting goods along this corridor. Work is also being done towards the digitalization of the Middle Corridor. We want to eliminate all physical and non-physical barriers, and combine documentation as much as possible,” Ablaliev added.

Note that the Middle Corridor connects the container rail freight networks of China and the countries of the European Union through the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey and Eastern Europe.

A multilateral multimodal transport infrastructure links ferry terminals of the Caspian and Black Seas with the railway systems of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and Poland.

The middle corridor contributes to an increase in cargo traffic from China to Turkey, as well as to European countries and in the opposite direction.

A block train running along this corridor delivers goods from China to Europe in an average of 20-25 days, and this is one of the main advantages of this transport corridor.
