Ecuadorian cyclist Jonathan Narváez (Ineos) once again put in a superb performance at the 2024 Giro d’Italia.
Narváez finished second in stage 12, a mountainous day that took place on Thursday (193 km) and was won by French cyclist Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal). The “Lizard” finished 31 seconds behind the winner, in a new stage where he demonstrated his talent and good form.
Narváez was part of the peloton that broke away 80 kilometres from the finish line, but was unable to respond to Alaphilippe’s attack, who crossed the finish line alone in a time of 4h07:44. Belgian cyclist Hermans Quinten completed the podium in third place.
Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team) remains the comfortable leader of the general classification with a 2:40 lead over his closest rival (Daniel Martínez). Jonathan Narváez moved up two places in the general classification, placing 22nd.
The Giro d’Italia will continue tomorrow with stage 13, a flat 179-kilometre stage with the finish line in the town of Cento.
