Enjoy the Perseid Meteor Shower This Night!
As the night unfolds, skygazers in the Northern Hemisphere have a treat in store: the dazzling Perseid meteor shower. This annual spectacle offers a mesmerizing display of shooting stars, captivating the imagination.
Meteorologist Gytis Valaika reminds us that tonight is the night to witness the peak of this celestial event. Under a clear sky, bundle up, find a comfortable chair or bed, and enjoy the dazzling light show.
The Perseids are known for their prolific nature, with potential sightings of up to 100 meteors per hour. These streaks of light are actually tiny particles called meteoroids, which enter Earth’s atmosphere and vaporize, releasing their energy as light.
The best time to catch the peak of the Perseid shower is late Monday or Tuesday night, between 2:00-3:00 AM. This is when the radiant, the point from which the meteors appear to radiate, is highest above the horizon and the sky is still dark.
Remember, the further you are from light pollution, the better your chances of witnessing the full glory of the Perseids.
