His victory is simply outstanding. By winning 412 of the 650 seats in the House of Commons, the Labor Party gets a clear majority and will be able to govern alone.

The first since 2010, after 14 years of conservative governments and a succession of crises: austerity, Brexit, rising prices and even a waltz of Prime Ministers.

The Tories’ number of seats fell from 365 five years ago to just 121, which led to the resignation of Rishi Sunak.

Bringing the UK closer to the EU

After being tasked by King Charles III with forming a government, Keir Starmer, the new Prime Minister, promised, “rebuild” United Kingdom.

Keir Starmer vows to transform the country just as he infamously targeted the Labor Party after succeeding left-wing Jeremy Corbyn in 2020, refocusing the party on the economy and fighting against of anti-Semitism.

The new Prime Minister says he wants to revive growth, restore public services, strengthen workers’ rights, reduce immigration and bring the United Kingdom closer to the European Union.

The EU, which was quick to welcome the success of the Labor Party. “A historic election victory“, he greeted the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, as he congratulated the new British Prime Minister, declaring that he was delighted to work with London under a “Labour” government and affirming that”common challenges such as stability, security, energy and immigration” discuss.

Strengthening European security

Better cooperation in defense and security is also seen as a priority on both sides of the Channel, especially because of the war in Ukraine or because of the return of Donald Trump at the head of the United States.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday that she looked forward to working with Keir Starmer to, among other things, “strengthening European security“. Although Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who has just been appointed head of EU diplomacy, welcomed “the UK’s commitment to our common security“.

On the other hand, the prospect of a return to the European single market is still distant. Keir Starmer believes he just wants the “Brexit works“. A phrase that was just the slogan of his campaign.
