Kemeten, Austria, Celebrates Market Town Status, New Infrastructure, and 550 Years of History
A vibrant Burgenland community marked a triple celebration on Sunday, July 13, 2025, commemorating its 550th anniversary, the inauguration of a new building yard, and the official designation as a market town. The events underscore a commitment to regional development and community resilience.
A Legacy of Resilience and Growth
The municipality of Kemeten’s journey, beginning in 1474, has been defined by characteristics now considered core to the Burgenland identity: diligent work ethic, strong community bonds, and a willingness to embrace challenges. These qualities were highlighted during a festive ceremony where a senior official presented the certificate recognizing Kemeten’s new status.
“Since the establishment of the municipality of Kemeten in 1474, the people in the village have lived the characteristics that today the Burgenland DNA has lived: hard work, cohesion and the ability to get together in difficult times and are ready to take risks,” the official stated.
Investing in Burgenland’s Future
The opening of the new building yard was presented as a key investment in the region’s infrastructure. According to a statement, modern infrastructure is essential not only for the functionality of individual communities but also for the overall success of Burgenland. The project signifies a broader strategy of supporting local communities and celebrating their achievements as a collective win for the entire country.
“Modern infrastructure is the backbone of every functioning community, but is also the backbone of a successful Burgenland,” a state councilor explained. “We have shown that we kemeten in addition to all other 170 Burgenland communities.”
A Model for Regional Success
Kemeten is being positioned as a model for other communities in Burgenland, demonstrating the potential for growth and prosperity through local initiative and responsible governance. The new building yard, described as more than just a facility for machinery, symbolizes the community’s proactive approach to contributing to the region’s success.
A state councilor emphasized the importance of partnership, particularly for communities facing financial pressures. “Many communities are under enormous financial pressure and wonder how they can continue to perform. But exactly in such times it shows what partnership means. The state of Burgenland does not just abandon its communities. Measurable help at your side.”
The designation of Kemeten as a market town is viewed as a testament to the community’s dedication and a positive indicator for the future of Burgenland. It demonstrates that a strategy focused on empowering communities, providing support, and recognizing their accomplishments is yielding tangible results.
