Ken Urker, the fiancé of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and father of her young daughter, was found dead at his Louisiana home on his birthday at age 33, drawing an active death investigation from local law enforcement and an outpouring of shock from family.
The Lafourche Sheriff’s Office responded to a notification at 6:15 p.m. CDT on Thursday, October 1, after family members discovered Urker unresponsive at his residence on what would have been his 34th birthday. According to reporting from TMZ cited across outlets, Blanchard had sent Urker a birthday text message that went unanswered, prompting a family member to check on him. Blanchard’s brother, Dylan, subsequently discovered him in the home, alongside other relatives.
Law Enforcement Investigation in Lafourche Parish
Authorities have not yet released an official cause of death. Law enforcement officials confirmed that Urker’s death remains under active investigation as detectives work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the discovery. Urker’s sister, Autumn, addressed the sudden loss during a social media livestream on Thursday evening, stating that the family did not suspect foul play and noting that he did not pass away from natural causes, though official investigative bodies have not verified those details. Urker’s public profile largely stemmed from his relationship with Blanchard rather than a documented celebrity or business fortune, and as news of his passing emerged, the official cause and further circumstances remained unknown while Blanchard’s brother Dylan, his wife, and an unidentified woman had discovered him unresponsive.

A Relationship Forged in Prison and Rekindled in Freedom
Urker first entered the public eye after watching the documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest, which chronicled Blanchard’s life and the intense abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. The pair were in contact while Blanchard served out seven years in prison for her role in the crime. During her incarceration, Dee Dee had pretended her daughter had diseases including leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and developmental issues, suffering from what is suspected to be Munchausen by proxy.
What began as prison correspondence evolved into a romantic relationship.
“He came and it was kind of a funny story but within the first 30 minutes he leaned over and gave me the most wonderful kiss of my whole life.”

Urker proposed to Blanchard during a prison visit in October 2018. The couple split up in August 2019, and Blanchard later married Ryan Scott Anderson in a July 2022 jailhouse ceremony. By April 2024, Blanchard and Urker had rekindled their previous relationship, getting matching husky dog tattoos and moving forward together.
Welcoming Daughter Aurora Raina Urker
Following public speculation and legal complexity regarding paternity laws due to Gypsy’s divorce from her ex-husband, a prenatal DNA test officially confirmed Urker as the biological father, with Blanchard confirming definitively that Urker was the father and would be an incredible dad.

A&E later reported that Aurora was born exactly one year after Blanchard’s release from prison. The child’s first name stemmed from a shared fascination with the Northern Lights—the proper term being the Aurora Borealis—that the couple had discussed years prior during their initial time together when they wrote each other’s future kid’s name on pieces of paper and picked Aurora without even knowing each other was picking it.
