New Delhi: Famous writer George Onakkoor has been awarded the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award. His autobiography ‘Hridayaragangal’ won him the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award. Raghunath Paleri won the Children’s Literature Award and Mobin Mohan won the Youth Award. Paleri won the award for his work ‘They are three and a rainbow’. Mobin Mohan was nominated for the award for his novel ‘Jakkarantha’.

Renowned as a novelist and storyteller, George Onakkoor has served as the Director of the State Encyclopedia Institute, the first unofficial chairman of the State Resource Center, the director of the Institute of Children’s Literature and the architect of the Balakairali Encyclopedia. He was awarded the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980 and 2004, the Thakazhi Award in 2006 and the Kesavadev Sahitya Award in 2009.

The first story appeared in the children’s section of Kaumudi Weekly. It later became the novel ‘Sky Away’. His closeness to Kaumudi led him into student politics, but he came back recognizing the way of writing. He did his post graduate studies in Malayalam from Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha and later got a job at Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Bhashaganga ‘was the first book published. With the publication of ‘Gulf’, the novel came to the forefront of the authors. ‘Beyond the Plains’ is a novel based on the private college teachers’ struggle of the 1970s. ‘Wind in the Mountains’ is a novel about Indira Gandhi. Kaltamara’s novel, Orchid, was translated into a textbook at the University of Atlanta in the United States.

Raghunath Paleri has made his mark in the Malayalam film industry as a story writer, screenwriter and dialoguer as well as in the field of Malayalam literature as a storyteller and novelist. He has directed three films. From One to Zero (1986), Awesome (1998), Sweet to the Tears (unreleased). Raghunath Paleri also played the role of Adruman in Thottappan.
