New Delhi: Renowned storyteller and novelist George Onakkoor has bagged this year’s Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award. The award-winning work is the autobiographical Heartbeat. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a certificate. K.P. Ramanunni, Dr. M. Lilavati, Dr. KS The committee comprising Ravikumar selected Hridayaragas from ten works.

Mobin Mohan’s novel Jakarantha won the Academy’s Youth Award this year and Raghunath Paleri’s novel Three and a Rainbow won the Children’s Award. The awards include a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a certificate.

George Onakkoor, a prominent figure in the field of Malayalam literature and culture, has also served as the Director of the Sarva Vigyan Kosham Institute, the first unofficial Chairman of the State Resource Center and the Director of the Institute of Children’s Literature. He has won many awards, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.

Apart from literature, Raghunath Paleri has also made his mark in cinema. Paleri, who is the screenwriter of the country’s first 3D film Maidir Kuttichathan, has directed three films. One to Zero won the State Award for Best Debut Director.

Mobin Mohan, a computer graduate, is an employee of the Kattappana Munsiff Court. Poet and cultural activist N. G. Mohanan is the son of Shobhana couple.
