Participants in a panel under the theme “The question of the Moroccan Sahara: A colonial invention”, held at the Royal College of Higher Military Education (CREMS), dissected, with academic rigor, the colonization and territorial amputations of Morocco , Algeria’s opposition to the historical and legitimate rights of Morocco, the process of decolonization of the Moroccan Sahara, as well as the links of membership of the Moroccan Sahara to the Kingdom.
Organized as part of the 2nd edition of the Information Seminar on the National Cause, this conclave was an opportunity to explore the different historical, anthropological, and socio-economic aspects of the southern provinces of the Kingdom, as well as the multiple facets of the history of the development of the Moroccan Sahara.
Speaking on this occasion, the Secretary General of the Rabita Mohammadia of the Ulemas, Ahmed Abbadi, highlighted the etymological dimension of the Bayâa, as a pact between the Sovereign and His people, so that it is their spiritual and temporal guide based on the guidance of the Holy Quran and prophetic tradition.
The transcendence of this act has persisted over the centuries, he added, sealing the Moroccan Sahara, space and people, to the Chorafas Alawiyines, who are today the only holders of the Bayâa by the world.
This unique dimension was revived by the late His Majesty King Hassan II, by his August launch of the Green March, as well as by the illustrious initiatives launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI from Laayoune, notably the new development model of southern provinces, the realization of which is almost complete.
For his part, the political scientist, Issa Babana El Alaoui, highlighted the geostrategic nature of a conflict artificially created in this region from October 1976, underlining the difficult task of liberating the Moroccan Sahara.
The recovery of this territory was a decolonization marked by a long period of struggle, he observed, noting that it extended over a quarter of a century, from 1956 to 1979.
This longevity, he explained, has its origins in the gradual recovery of national independence, the prior dedication of postcolonial Maghrebi bilateral border and territorial conflicts, in addition to the recourse to a process using actions as peaceful as they are arduous. .
Over two days, this grandiose event brings together eminent professors and internationally renowned personalities, as part of research activities and studies organized for the benefit of Officers of the Royal Armed Forces and trainee Officers of the CREMS.
