After withdrawing from the fight, Kennedy could express his support for the Republican candidate Donald Trump, according to the newspaper “New York Times” and the TV channel CNN.

Support for Kennedy is 8.7% nationwide, according to a poll conducted this week by The Hill.

In the tight race between Democratic candidate Kamal Harris and Republican Trump, the votes of Kennedy supporters could determine the outcome in some swing states, analysts say.

Kennedy, the scion of America’s most famous political clan, is an environmental lawyer and longtime vaccine skeptic, but his campaign has failed to gain traction among average voters.

On Wednesday, the Kennedy campaign announced that he would give a speech in Arizona on Friday. A Trump campaign event will also be held in the country on Friday.

Kennedy’s campaign vice-presidential nominee, Nicolette Shanahan, hinted in an interview this week that Kennedy might drop out of the race and endorse Trump.

The Republican nominee told CNN on Tuesday that he would “definitely” be open to a role for Kennedy in his administration if elected.

“He’s a great man. He’s a very smart man,” Trump told CNN. “I’ve known him for a very long time.”

“I didn’t know that he was thinking about withdrawing, but if he was thinking about withdrawing, I would certainly be open to that,” Trump said.
