Shastamkota: A student committed suicide after Kerala Bank’s foreclosure notice was posted at her home. Abhirami (19), daughter of Aji and Shalini, died at Aji House, north of Thirkunnapuzha, South of Suranad. Chengannur Eramallikara is a second year undergraduate student at Shree Ayyappa College.

He died by hanging himself from the bedroom fan around 4.30 pm on Tuesday. Only the old grandmother Shantamma was at home at the time of the incident. Those who rushed to hear their screams immediately took Abhirami to the hospital but could not save her life.

Aji’s loan from Pataram branch of Kerala Bank was outstanding. The bank manager and the police came home around 11 pm on Tuesday and returned with a notice. At this time only Abhirami’s grandmother was present in the house. In the evening, the parents went to the bank in Patara. They came to know about the suicide while talking to the bank manager.

Officials explain that the first stage of the process was to show that the outstanding land is under the control of the bank. They also say that the confiscation is implemented after the bank has given newspaper advertisement.

A large police team led by Shastamkota DYSP Sheriff had reached the spot. The body kept in the Shastamkota taluk hospital has been sent to Kollam Paripally Govt. for further action. The medical college will be shifted to the hospital.
