Three more days to flag off the first Kerala Games

Thiruvananthapuram: A gathering of Olympic athletes to attend the inaugural event of the first Kerala Games organized by the Kerala Olympic Association. The inaugural ceremony of the Kerala Games on April 30 will be attended by many Olympic medalists.

Boxer Mary Kom, who won bronze at the 2012 London Olympics, and Tokyo Olympic medalists Meerabhai Chanu, Bajrang Poonia, Lovelina Borgohain and P.R. Apart from Sreejesh, Malayalee athletes Sajan Prakash, Alex Antony and KT also participated in the Olympics. Irfan will also be present at the function.

The Kerala Olympic Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Mary Kom at the ceremony. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and a plaque. Earlier, the award amount was Rs 50,000 but this year it has been increased to Rs 5 lakh.

Meerabhai Chanu, who won silver in the 49 kg weight category at the Tokyo Olympics, Bajrang Poonia, who won bronze in wrestling, Lovelina Borgohain, who won bronze in the women’s 65 kg welterweight boxing, and P.R. Sreejesh will be given Rs 5 lakh and a citation. Malayalees Sajan Prakash, Alex Antony and KT who participated in the Tokyo Olympics. Irfan will be awarded Rs 1 lakh and a citation.
