Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC President K Sudhakaran MP has opposed the decision of Calicut University to grant professorships to retired college teachers in violation of UGC rules. He said that Kerala should pay Rs 10 crore to give the professorship to a minister and that only the Pinarayi government can take such insane action. Sudhakaran scoffed. Sudhakaran demanded that the Calicut University should immediately cancel the process of awarding professorships to those who retire after 2018 in violation of UGC rules and government orders to grant professorships to Minister R Bindhu.

After Calicut University, there is a growing demand for other universities to extend this benefit to those who retire after 2018. According to this, when 200 teachers are paid arrears of Rs 5 lakh, the government will have a liability of Rs 10 crore. Sudhakaran pointed out that it was completely immoral and illegal during the great financial crisis of the Kovid period.

Calicut University has relaxed the UGC rules to give professorships to college teachers, including a retired minister, to weaken a petition filed in the High Court by UDF opposition candidate Thomas Unniyadan challenging Minister Bindu’s campaigning for the post of professor in the last Assembly elections.

Calicut University, with the knowledge of the Minister, is not entitled to continue in this post if the order of the Government and the UGC is violated. The minister, who wrote a letter of recommendation to the Governor for the illegal re-appointment of the Vice Chancellor of Kannur University as a reward for taking the initiative to make the wife of the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary an Associate Professor, is sure that he will not violate any rules to get the post of Professor.

Meanwhile, the wife of the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary has been promoted to the rank of Malayalam Associate Professor at Kannur University. B. College Joseph teacher Dr. Joseph Soukariya won the first rank in the interview of Malayalam professor held at Calicut University. He was also ranked number one in an interview with an associate professor. In both posts, Joseph Sokaria was ranked first, acknowledging his excellence. Sudhakaran said that this was a major setback for the political appointment of Kannur University.
