ChennaiWayanad: The death toll in the landslide incidents in Kerala’s Wayanad district has risen to 167 and more than 200 people have been injured. Rescue teams have intensified efforts to find people trapped in the debris on the second day of the search operation. The Wayanad district administration confirmed the death of 167 people in this disaster. The district administration said that 22 children are also among the 167 dead. It said that 219 people have been admitted to hospitals from the disaster-affected areas and 78 of them are still undergoing treatment. It is reported that 9 people of the same Tamil family have died in the landslide in Mundakkai. They all worked with their families in the tea garden of Choorlamala.
Bodies of 6 people recovered
According to the information, the house in which they were living was completely destroyed and buried by the landslide. The bodies of six people have been recovered. Survivors said that 3 other people living with them are missing. The search for their bodies is in full swing. It has been learned that all these people who died in the Wayanad landslide were residents of Valparai in Coimbatore.
11 Tamil people died in Kerala accident
Two people from Tamil Nadu have already died due to the landslide in Kerala. With this, the death toll has reached 11. Kalidas, a 34-year-old construction worker from Cuddalore in the Nilgiris district, had gone to Choorlamalla, Mundakkai, Wayanad district for work. Kalidas died in the landslide and flood in Choorlamalla.
Relief of Rs 3-3 lakh announced
Similarly, Kalyan Kumar of Bandalur area of Nilgiri district also died in the landslide. He was working as a priest in Wayanad. Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced relief of Rs 3 lakh each for their families.
A bigger tragedy than the death of 9 Tamil people
On the other hand, the death of 9 Tamil people of the same family in this accident has caused a big tragedy. People of Mundakkai area are crying that their village is missing in the landslide. The rescue team also said that the parts of the bodies washed away in the flood are scattered here and there. The rescue workers have also said that they are searching for body parts.
A new river was formed due to the landslide
A new river has formed due to the landslide in Mundakkai area. Meanwhile, a temporary hospital has been set up 6 km away from Choorlamala area. More than 100 people who were rescued alive have been admitted to hospitals.
