Thiruvananthapuram: Electricity consumption in the state continues to rise steadily. Saturday’s power usage hit another all-time high. Kerala consumed 108.22 crore units of electricity on Saturday. The maximum demand has also jumped to a record 5364 MW.

Our total requirement on April 5 was 5353 MW. Of this, 2800 MW is expensive thermal power purchased from outside the state. KSEB is working with the aim of providing uninterrupted electricity to the consumers even when there is severe power crisis. But to fully achieve this goal, the cooperation of consumers is essential.

The current situation is that the number of electric vehicles is increasing massively. While charging, electric vehicles that consume a large amount of electricity at the same rate are charged during the night, causing overloading of transformers and tripping of fuses. Due to this, the whole area becomes dark. Whenever possible, it is advisable to schedule the charging of electric vehicles after 12 midnight or during the day. It is also beneficial for the longevity of vehicle batteries.

It has been informed that cooperation should be done by switching off all non-essential electricity or transmission between 6 pm to 12 pm, rescheduling rescheduled activities to day time and switching off automatic pump sets.
