Kerry and Jeff’s professional partnership began to fall apart in the early 2010s, when the latter suffered a spider bite and had to leave Slayer. Unfortunately, the pair separated permanently in May 2013, when Jeff died.

In a recent interview given to Rolling StoneKerry stated that she was unable to say goodbye to Jeff even though they lived close to each other.

“I knew he was in the hospital. I knew he was bad, but I didn’t know it was that bad. I was rehearsing with Paul[Bostaph, drummer]for whatever we were doing, my manager called me one day and said : ‘We lost Jeff.’ I thought, ‘I didn’t see that coming.’

I thought there would be a moment… I mean, he only lived an hour away from me, in a direction I never go – which is no excuse. But you just don’t know until the final moment comes and you think, ‘Holy shit. I wanted to go there yesterday’. But that didn’t happen,” Kerry said.

Jeff Hanneman passed away on May 2, 2013, at the age of 49, due to problems caused by excessive alcohol consumption. Read more about the guitarist in the note below.
