In a surprising turn of events, Kevin Federline, former backup dancer and ex-husband of pop icon Britney Spears, is reportedly seeking more child support from the singer just days before their oldest son, Sean Preston, turns 18.

With full custody of their other son, 16-year-old Jayden James, Federline intends to return to court to request an increase in child support, especially considering Spears’ anticipated career comeback.

The news broke on Monday morning, sparking debates and discussions about the ongoing financial battle between the two former spouses. The couple was married from 2004 to 2007.

According to TMZ, Federline currently receives $40,000 per month for the support of both Sean and Jayden. However, this amount was calculated when custody of the children was evenly split between the couple. In recent years, the boys have spent more time with their father, leading to Federline’s desire for increased financial support.

As Sean approaches his 18th birthday on September 14, his child support will naturally come to an end. This development is said to have brought a sense of relief to Britney Spears, who has not seen her children in nearly two years.

Sources close to Spears claim that she is happy to continue supporting her sons, but wants the financial assistance to go directly to them once they reach adulthood, rather than through Federline.

There were initial speculations that Federline’s relocation to Hawaii, following his wife Victoria Prince’s job opportunity at a university, was an attempt to exploit child support laws that extend until the child reaches 23 if enrolled in an accredited educational institution. However, sources suggest that the original child support ruling remains in effect, based on California laws.

According to the Daily Mail, the child support ruling made in California implies that child support for Sean will cease on September 14, 2023. On the other hand, Spears will continue to financially support Jayden until he turns 18 on September 12, 2024. TMZ, however, reports that Jayden’s child support will continue until his high school graduation in 2025.

TMZ also reports that Federline is seeking an additional $20,000 per month in child support for Jayden, considering the end of support for Sean and his full physical custody of Jayden. The outlet previously revealed that both boys have declined to see their mother in person for almost two years.

This is not the first time Federline has pursued more child support from Spears. In 2018, a new agreement was reached, resulting in the singer paying Federline thousands more per month. At that time, Federline argued that he earned less than 1% of Spears’ annual income.

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline divorced in 2007 after a three-year marriage. Federline later married Victoria Prince, with whom he has two daughters, in addition to two children from previous relationships. Spears’ ongoing conservatorship, managed by her father Jamie Spears, lasted from February 2008 to November 2021.

As the legal battle continues, the public awaits further developments regarding the child support dispute between Spears and Federline.
