The accuser alleged that Spacey had forcefully grabbed his crotch while they were driving to the White Tie & Tiara Ball in 2004 or 2005, almost causing a car accident. However, Furnish supported Spacey’s testimony that the actor had only attended the event in 2001. Furnish cited photographic evidence from 2001 to 2005, which showed Spacey’s presence solely in images from that year. He clarified that all guests were photographed each year.
Appearing via video link from Monaco, Elton John confirmed Spacey’s attendance at the party once in the early 2000s. He further remembered Spacey’s arrival after flying to England on a private jet, emphasizing the buzz and excitement created by the Oscar-winning actor’s presence. John stated that Spacey spent the night at their house after the event and even bought a Mini Cooper at the auction held that night for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
However, the alleged victim, while admitting confusion about the exact year, maintained the gravity of the incident and how it affected him. He claimed that Spacey had fondled him over several years, with this incident being the final straw that led him to threaten the actor and subsequently avoid him.
In his defense, Spacey took the stand on Thursday and denied all allegations against him. He acknowledged engaging in romantic contact with the accuser but stressed that he respected the man’s boundaries as he identified as straight. Spacey expressed deep hurt and disbelief when he learned that the man had complained to the police, asserting that their interactions had been consensual and labeled the accusation as a “reimagining” of events.
Throughout the trial, four men have accused Spacey of sexual assault, indecent assault, and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent. The actor has pleaded not guilty to all 12 charges against him.
Spacey’s acting career faced a major setback in 2017 when actor Anthony Rapp publicly accused him of sexual misconduct. Although he emerged unscathed in a 2019 Massachusetts case that dealt with similar allegations, his career suffered a severe blow.
