(Antwerp, Australia – January 21, 2026) — Police have found the body of a man wanted in connection with a stabbing in Melbourne, hours after launching a search for him.

A man sought by police after an 18-year-old woman was stabbed in Kew, Australia, was found dead in Antwerp, prompting an investigation by authorities.

  • An 18-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times in Kew, Melbourne, early Monday.
  • Police searched for a Camberwell man known to the woman in connection with the attack.
  • The man’s body was found in Antwerp, in Victoria’s Wimmera region, after a call to emergency services.
  • Police are not treating the man’s death as suspicious, but investigations are ongoing.

Police discovered the body of the man, who had been wanted for questioning in connection with the stabbing of an 18-year-old woman, in Antwerp, east of Nhill in the Wimmera region, according to a statement released by authorities.

The woman was attacked outside a home on Miller Grove in Kew around 1 a.m. local time, police said. She was stabbed multiple times and transported to a hospital in serious condition, with her injuries initially considered life-threatening.

Superintendent Wayne Cheesman of the Victoria Police told Nova radio prior to the discovery of the man’s body that the woman had been dropped off at her residence when she was approached and stabbed by a male acquaintance. “She gets dropped off at her residence in Kew and there’s a male who is known to her — he’s also of similar age — and he approaches her in her driveway as she’s about to enter the family home and he stabs her multiple times,” Cheesman said.

The circumstances surrounding the man’s death are currently unclear, but police stated they are not treating it as suspicious. The man’s body was found approximately five hours after the stabbing, following a call to Triple Zero (000), Australia’s emergency hotline.

“Just a young girl who was minding her own business walking home in the safety of her own driveway,” Superintendent Cheesman said, describing the incident as “a really sad incident.” He added, “How an 18-year-old boy can, for whatever reason, think that it’s okay to approach a girl he knows and stab her multiple times in her own home is really sad and I don’t know how people get to that point.”

Police have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident. Investigations are continuing, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner, according to police statements.
