The Korea Football Association (KFA) will charter a plane to Jordan to help players return home quickly for the third round of Asian qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup North and Central America next month.

The Korea Football Association announced that it will send a ‘Reds expedition team’ by chartering a plane to Jordan for the third match of the North & Central American World Cup third round qualifiers, which will be held at the Amman International Stadium in Jordan on October 10.

The expedition team will depart on October 9th, watch the third round of the World Cup qualifier between Korea and Jordan in Amman, and return to Incheon International Airport on the 11th.

The Asiana Airlines charter plane that the expedition team, consisting of the football association, partners, press corps, and cheering squad, will use is the A380, a super-jumbo passenger plane that can accommodate around 400 people.

The national soccer team, which was called up on October 7th and left for Jordan immediately, will use this chartered plane to return home after the match.

The Football Association uses charter flights to facilitate the national team’s ‘quick return home’.

‘Hong Myung-bo’ will also play the first and second matches against Palestine (home) on the 5th and Oman (away) on the 10th of this month in the third round of the North and Central American World Cup qualifiers, and then face Jordan (away) on the 10th and Iraq (home) on the 15th in October.

The problem is that there are no direct flights back to Korea after the Jordan expedition, which could hinder preparations for the match against Iraq. Accordingly, the Korea Football Association plans to charter a plane to shorten the national team’s travel time and increase the players’ recovery time, helping them prepare well for the match against Iraq.

It has been 11 years since the Football Association chartered a plane for an away match against Lebanon in June 2013 and the final match of the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

However, in accordance with the recommendation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which expressed concerns about safety due to the unstable situation in Lebanon at the time, the number of people on board the chartered plane, including the players and press, was minimized and no cheering squad was used.

The Football Association is recruiting an away cheering squad of up to 200 people, including the national team’s official supporters, the ‘Red Devils’, and general football fans.

If we include local Korean residents, the size of the away cheering squad is expected to be close to 400 people.

The national team will play the 9th and 10th away and home games of the third preliminary round in June next year. After the away game against Iraq on June 5, 2025, the team will play the final match of the third preliminary round against Kuwait on the 10th.

In the third qualifying round, the top two teams from each group will receive direct tickets to the North and Central American World Cup finals. The Football Association has left open the possibility of using a chartered plane in June of next year, depending on the progress of the third qualifying round.
