When Harland D. Sanders opened the first restaurant, the “Harland Sanders Cafe,” in Kentucky in 1930, the success story of KFC began, which today has more than 350,000 employees worldwide and over 25,000 restaurants. By November at the latest, another restaurant from the franchise chain, which, as the name suggests, specializes in poultry, is set to join the more than ten existing locations – and it will be located for the first time in the Melk district.

As the NÖN learned, the fast-food giant will open at the current location of the trailer company Humer, directly next to the West Autobahn and directly opposite McDonald’s. KFC did not wish to comment on the new branch to NÖN, despite multiple requests.

However, both Johannes Humer from the eponymous trailer company and Loosdorf’s SPÖ Mayor Thomas Vasku confirmed to NÖN that the deal is indeed finalized. “KFC approached us as a potential interested party. They were very dedicated and signed a lease for 15 years,” said Humer, who is now searching for a new location for his business between St. Pölten and Vienna.

Plans have already been submitted, and last week the building negotiations for the project next to the West Autobahn also took place. Loosdorf’s Mayor Vasku expressed his pleasure that a replacement was quickly found after the planned departure of Humer, as the branch is expected to create up to 25 new jobs. “Of course, it brings added value to Loosdorf, both in terms of municipal taxes and jobs. It is a great enhancement for us. While we are already well established in the gastronomy sector, it is an additional offering for the citizens,” Vasku said.

KFC Expands into New Territory: What This Means for Future Fast Food Trends

As KFC gears up to open a new restaurant in the Melk district of Austria, the expansion highlights some significant future trends within the fast food industry. With Harland D. Sanders’ initial venture back in 1930 leading to a global phenomenon with over 25,000 restaurants, this latest move reflects ongoing strategic growth in emerging markets.

The new KFC location, situated strategically next to a McDonald’s and along a major highway, indicates a trend towards positioning fast food outlets in high-traffic areas to capture customers on the go. This development is particularly timely, as the fast-food sector adapts to changing consumer habits that prioritize convenience and quick service.

Furthermore, the collaboration with local businesses like the Humer trailer company suggests an increasing trend towards cooperation between franchises and regional enterprises, which may enhance community integration and provide local economic benefits. In this instance, KFC’s establishment is projected to create up to 25 jobs in the locality, underlining the potential for fast food chains to contribute significantly to local economies through employment and tax revenue.

The proactive engagement by KFC to secure a 15-year lease shows a commitment to long-term investment in the region, indicating a trend where brands seek stability amidst economic fluctuations. Additionally, the approval process for construction points to a streamlined approach to development, which could set a precedent for future openings in various locations.

As urban areas evolve, the demand for diverse dining options continues to rise. KFC’s entrance into the Loosdorf area not only broadens the culinary landscape but also caters to the increasing consumer expectation for variety and choice. The collaboration of well-established fast-food brands with local governance reflects a trend towards more community-focused development strategies in the food service industry.
