Leicester Stabbing: Cybersecurity Student Khaleed Oladipo Named as Victim

A 20-year-old cybersecurity student has died after being stabbed in Leicester city centre, police confirmed Tuesday. Khaleed Oladipo, a second-year student at De Montfort University (DMU), succumbed to a chest wound in hospital following the attack on Oxford Street.

A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death, authorities stated. The incident occurred near the university campus, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. An 18-year-old man remains in police custody on suspicion of murder.

Family’s Heartbreak and Plea for Justice

Oladipo’s family, originally from London, released a poignant statement expressing their profound grief. “We cannot begin to put into words how sad we are to have lost Khaleed,” the family said. “He was an extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend.”

They described Khaleed as a “good boy who loved his family” and highlighted his passion for football, noting he had played since the age of four. According to the family, he was believed to be on his way home to watch an Arsenal game when he was attacked.

The family extended gratitude to the emergency services and members of the public who attempted to save his life, as well as to the police for their ongoing investigation. “We are struggling to understand why anyone would do this,” they stated. “We know getting justice for Khaleed will not bring him back but we will make sure that he gets the justice he deserves.”

University Community Mourns

De Montfort University Vice-Chancellor Katie Normington described Oladipo’s death as a “tragedy… deeply felt across our campus.”

“A family has lost a beloved member and all our hearts go out to them,” Normington said. “Khaleed was a member of our DMU community and we know this loss will be particularly difficult for those who knew him.”

The university is providing direct support to students who studied with Oladipo, as well as all staff and students affected by the tragedy. “As a university we create opportunities for people to achieve, and seeing that cut off so tragically is devastating for all of us,” Normington added.
