Football club “Khimki” announced the resignation of head coach Igor Cherevchenko. The contract with him was terminated by mutual agreement of the parties after a major defeat of the Moscow Region team in the 12th round of the Russian championship from Dynamo with a score of 1: 4. Now Khimki are in 14th place with 11 points. For the time being, Igor Yushchenko has been appointed acting head coach, who had previously led the youth team of Khimki.

Another coaching resignation has taken place in the Russian Premier League. During the current season, the head coaches were changed by Ural, Arsenal, Lokomotiv, and Rostov did it twice. Now Khimki parted ways with their mentor. Igor Cherevchenko left the Moscow Region club three days after a sensitive defeat to Dynamo at the start of the 12th round of the Russian Championship. Having lost to one of the leaders of the current championship in all respects – 1: 4, Khimki with 11 points were in the standings on the 14th line. At the same time, they are ahead of the last place “Ural” by only two points.

At the same time, it is obvious that the whole struggle for survival in the Premier League is still ahead, and, for example, from Nizhny Novgorod, which is in 11th position, Khimki are now only three points behind. Basically, when Cherevchenko headed the team during last season, it was in the worst position – in 15th place with three points after eight rounds.

Cherevchenko took over Khimki right after the crushing defeat to Krasnodar with a score of 2: 7. Nevertheless, the specialist managed to turn the tide and achieve the best result in the history of Khimki, which finished eighth in the 2020/21 championship.

But, as noted in the club, the decision to resign was made jointly with Cherevchenko. The parties terminated the contract by mutual agreement of the parties. Together with the head coach, his assistants Igor Semshov and Valery Klimov left.

“I want to say a big thank you to Igor Gennadievich for the work done,” Roman Teryushkov, the former Minister of Sports of the Moscow Region and Khimki curator, told TASS. I am sure that in the near future we will see Cherevchenko at the head of the top club. We are going further, our vector of development with a stake on homegrown footballers will not change. “

For now, Igor Yushchenko has been appointed acting head coach, who will prepare the Khimki team for the upcoming Russian Cup match with Baltika. This specialist has been working in the Moscow Region club system for a long time, and recently led the Khimki-M team playing in the second league. In addition, Yushchenko was the first captain of Khimki. In 2006, he joined the coaching staff of Vladimir Kazachenok, when Khimki made their way to the Premier League for the first time, and then repeatedly acted as head coach, including in the top division.

However, most likely, Yushchenko will be replaced by another mentor. Roman Teryushkov said that by November 1 the club will form a list of candidates for the post of head coach. According to various sources, it includes Rashid Rakhimov, Vadim Evseev, Mikhail Galaktionov, Kirill Novikov, Evgeny Kaleshin and Sergei Yuran, who recently coached Khimki and brought them to the Premier League, as well as to the 2019/20 Russian Cup final. …
